Luke McDonald graduated as a homeschool student in 2000. He accepted an athletic scholarship to play basketball at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. While at Drake, McDonald set multiple school records including most 3-pointers by a freshman, most 3-pointers in a single season, and most 3-pointers in school history.
McDonald lead the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring his sophomore year while being named 1st team all-conference. McDonald was also named the Missouri Valley Conference pre-season "Diaper Dandy" by Dick Vitale in the 2000 college basketball preview issue of ESPN The Magazine and was selected to tour Canada with the NIT national team in 2002.
Because of extreme bone spurs on both feet which had developed throughout his college career, McDonald's basketball career was cut short before his senior year began in 2003. "I had a great time playing basketball and thank God for the opportunity to play in college." McDonald told the Des Moines Register in October of 2003. "I loved playing basketball but now I have to move on."
After graduating from Drake University in 2004, McDonald founded LMP Publishing and immediately set his focus on the Homeschool community. In 2005 LMP Publishing teamed up with the National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championships. Since 2005, LMP Publishing has develped a successful sponsorship strategy for the NCHBC while also publishing the event program.
